While smoking is still the most popular way to consume cannabis, this, however, may not hold for too long. In recent years, more and more joints and pipes are being ditched for the healthier and fast-acting alternative – vaporizers.

Crucial to the rise of vaporizers and vaping itself are THC E-liquids. These extremely concentrated cannabis juices offer an entirely different experience with their potent psychedelic effects. Furthermore, you can make good quality THC liquid for your vape in the comfort of our own home.

What Is THC E-liquid?

Vape Juice

Also referred to as e-juice, this liquid used in vaporizers contains highly concentrated amounts of THC. Technically, it is classified as a tincture – a liquid extract made by soaking a substance in alcohol to release its active ingredients. In this case, that active ingredient is the potent, psychoactive THC.

Various types of alcohol can be used to create these tinctures. Some of the more common examples include ethanol, vodka, and brandy. Alcohol can also be substituted with other liquids such as oil, vinegar, and glycerin.

Liquid THC is typically green in color, with various different shades depending on what ingredients you use to create it. Its color may range from light to dark green depending on the plant matter used. The extract also gives off a floral aroma.

Thanks to the numerous benefits it holds, THC liquids are becoming one of the most sought-after cannabis products.

  • Highly Potent. One of the main selling points of this cannabis product is its insanely high potency. While regular cannabis buds have THC levels ranging from 12% at the lowest and 35% for the highest THC weed strains, e-liquids are usually brimming with 50% to 70% of this mind-altering cannabinoid. Some variants can even reach potency levels of up to 90%. THC liquid allows for the highest THC percentages for marijuana and thus intensifies the high you get from consuming it.
  • Healthier. Another sought-after benefit of liquid THC is that it is safer to use because it produces far less toxins when compared to traditional smoking. The latter involves burning buds which, in turn, releases many carcinogens that may irritate and infect the lungs. On the other hand, since liquids are instantly turned into vapor, the resulting cloud is free of tar, ash, and other harmful chemicals. This is also what makes vaping the ideal choice for most medicating patients.
  • Discreet. Since there are places where cannabis is still not widely accepted, inconspicuous ways of consuming weed are preferred by many consumers. While vaping is the most popular way of consuming e-liquids, there are other, more discreet ways of harnessing the potency of this extract. These include sublingual application, oral sprays, or incorporating it into edibles. This makes liquid THC extremely versatile.
  • More Inexpensive. Cannabis juices are more concentrated than buds and nugs. Hence, every dollar spent on it is spent on cannabis alone. Even with the addition of a vaping kit, consuming THC liquids may still be a more cost-effective method of intake in the long run. When smoking, around 88% of the smoke is non-cannabinoid, meaning lots of material and cash are wasted on a weaker high. Liquids remedy this predicament by providing a more robust experience. Also, because it is more concentrated, less of this substance is needed to attain the desired high. Therefore, it effectively prolongs the supply of marijuana.
  • Fast-Acting. Vaping is one of the fastest ways to get high from cannabis. As the THC-infused vapor enters through the lungs it is directly absorbed into the bloodstream; thereby delivering a mind-bending buzz in a matter of seconds.

Since e-liquids are concentrated THC extracts, it provides the typical, albeit more pronounced effects of smoked cannabis buds. Its pleasant side effects may include, but are not limited to, time distortion, enhanced stimuli receptivity, drowsiness, and extreme feelings of euphoria.

However, one particular difference is that THC liquids contain negligible levels of other cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, CBG, and CBL. This means that the specific physiological and psychological effects of these compounds will not be felt. However, it is also possible to make CBD vape oil.

Depending on the method of consumption, THC liquids may take effect anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours. As always, it is better to start with a low dose and slowly increase to avoid overconsumption.

Methods Of Consumption

As mentioned, THC liquid is a versatile cannabis extract; it can be consumed through various different methods. The mode of consumption is one of the significant factors that will dictate how fast or slow the onset of the effects will be.

  • Vaping. This is the most popular intake method today. It might be because it gives off a similar feeling of smoking. It is also the fastest way of consuming THC liquids. The impact can be felt approximately 3 to 5 minutes after vaping. Its effects, however, do not last as long as in other methods. Usually, it normally begins to wear off or lessen after 2 to 4 hours.
  • Sublingual Dropping. This method involves dropping the liquid under the tongue, where it will be absorbed into the bloodstream through the tiny blood vessels. The sublingual application works faster than edibles since the THC skips metabolic digestion and goes directly into the bloodstream. However, it has a slower onset than vaping as it may take around 15 minutes before the effects kick in. Nevertheless, the effects last longer, for approximately 4 to 6 hours.
  • Oral Spray. THC sprays mimic the effect of smoking or vaping without actually inhaling smoke. The main principle is similar to that of sublingual drops. However, instead of dropping under the tongue, the liquid is sprayed on the insides of the cheeks. The onset and longevity of the effects are similar to sublingual drops.
  • Infusing Into Edibles. THC liquids can also be incorporated into other consumables. It can be used to make several THC-infused recipes – from pastries and beverages to candies and gummies. It takes about 30 to 90 minutes for the effects to kicks in, but once it does, it can be felt for about 6 to 8 hours.

How To Make THC E-Liquids?

These concentrated juices are available in almost any local dispensary for very reasonable prices. However, those who want to dabble in the art of making these liquid extract can very much do so at home.

How To

Decarboxylating The Weed

Preparing e-juices starts with decarboxylating the buds. This process converts tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) into its activated form – the psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Simply tossing raw cannabis buds into alcohol in the hopes that it will provide an incredible high is absurd. Decarboxylation is a crucial step that must – at all cost – be performed.

Fortunately, decarboxylation is a straightforward process. All that needs to be done is to grind the buds into a coarse grain, spread it evenly in a cookie sheet, and roast it in the oven between 110°C and 120°C for 1 hour. Another way to do this is by putting the weed in a vacuum-sealed boiling bag and submerging it in boiling water for about 90 minutes.

In all the mentioned steps, it is crucial to note that the decarboxylating temperature must be kept below 121°C. Otherwise, this would result in the loss of valuable terpenes or possibly risk scorching the buds.

Three Methods Of Creating E-Liquids

There are several ways of producing e-liquid from high-quality buds. Regardless of the method, the basic principles remain the same. First, the THC is extracted from the plant either by cooking or steeping. And second, the active component is then absorbed by the alcohol, and the plant matter is discarded. Depending on the method used, the process may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 months to complete.

Room Temperature Method

The traditional method of creating THC liquids does not require the use of any fancy technology. It is very much like brewing tea wherein the plant is steeped into the solvent and set aside. This method is preferred by many as it extracts every last molecule of THC out of the buds. However, the downside is that it takes an incredibly long time to produce the end product using this method.

Items needed:

  • 30 grams of high-THC Cannabis
  • High proof alcohol (or glycerine, for those who do not drink)
  • 1-liter mason jar with lid
  • Cheesecloth
  • Opaque bottle

  1. Grind and decarboxylate the plant matter.
  2. Place the decarboxylated weed inside the mason jar.
  3. Fill the jar with the alcohol or glycerine, leaving about an inch of space at the top of the jar. Seal with the lid and shake well.
  4. Place the jar inside a paper bag and store it in a dark cabinet or closet. This will prevent the sunlight from spoiling the tincture.
  5. Let the jar sit for 30-60 days – the longer the waiting time, the better the product will be.
  6. Regularly monitor the temperature of the storage. It should be within room temperature. At most, it can be warm – but never hot.
  7. After the steeping period, separate the liquid from the plant matter using the cheesecloth.
  8. Store the liquid in an opaque bottle. Keep out of sunlight’s reach to preserve the product.

Cold Method

The cold method involves chopping or tearing the herb into small pieces and freezing it to preserve the cannabinoids. During the steeping stage, the mixture is shaken periodically to agitate the material and hasten the extraction. Compared to the room temperature method, this method only takes up to 2 days to complete.

Items needed:

  • 30 grams of high-THC Cannabis
  • High proof alcohol (or glycerine, for those who would prefer it to be alcohol-free)
  • 1-liter mason jar with lid
  • Cheesecloth
  • Ziploc bag
  • Freezer
  • Opaque bottle

  1. Grind and decarboxylate the cannabis.
  2. Place the herb in a Ziploc bag and store in the freezer for a few hours. Place the alcohol in the fridge as well.
  3. After about 2-3 hours, or when the plant is fully frozen, mix the weed and the alcohol in the mason jar.
  4. Seal the jar tightly with the lid. Shake it for 5 minutes then return the jar to the freezer.
  5. Remove the jar from the freezer every 2-3 hours and shake it for 5-minutes. Continue alternating between shaking and storing for the next two days.
  6. After 48 hours, strain the mixture through a cheesecloth to remove the plant matter. Store the extracted liquid in an opaque container and keep it away from direct sunlight.

Hot Method

Also known as the ‘green dragon’, the hot method is the fastest way to make THC liquids. As the name implies, it uses heat to extract the THC from the plant quicker. Instead of days or months, the hot method only needs a few minutes.

The drawback, however, is that it poses the risk of alcohol catching fire during the process. Moreover, too much heat may burn off much of the terpenes. Still, this is one of the most appealing ways to make ready-to-use THC liquid.

To minimize the risks of starting a fire, test it out with smaller amounts and ensure adequate ventilation.

Items needed:

  • 5 grams of high-THC Cannabis
  • High proof alcohol (or glycerine, for those who do not drink)
  • 500ml mason jar with lid
  • Cheesecloth
  • Quick read thermometer
  • Medium-sized saucepan

  1. Grind and decarboxylate the cannabis.
  2. Put the herb inside the mason jar and add 100 ml alcohol.
  3. Pour about an inch of water in the medium-sized pan. Bring the water to a low simmer.
  4. Place the mason jar in the pan with simmering water.
  5. Monitor the temperature inside the jar using the thermometer. Bring the temperature to 76 °C but do not let it exceed the boiling point of ethanol – 78°C.
  6. While keeping the optimal temperature, simmer the mixture inside the jar for 20 to 30 minutes.
  7. Let the mixture cool for 1-2 minutes before filtering the plant matter off the extract using the cheesecloth. Store the liquid in an opaque bottle out of sunlight’s reach.

A Perfect Alternative

As the most coveted herb continually becomes legal across states, THC liquid demand and consumption will undoubtedly continue to increase as well. Using this liquid can be a better and healthier alternative to dabbing and smoking. Its extreme potency, paired with its purity and versatility almost make it a complete package. However, because of its high THC content, E-liquids can be easily overconsumed. Hence, proper dosing and tolerance monitoring should be strictly observed.

Vape Oil

Nevertheless, making these potent juices is far more simple than you may have first though. It is so fool-proof that it can be made at home. However, that does not mean that the procedures can be performed carelessly. Bear in mind that alcohol is flammable. As such, when handling it near a heat source, safety must always be ensured by doing the procedures in a well-ventilated area. Doing so will prevent any serious accident from occurring.
