I’m going to show you a few of the basics when it comes to setting up your indoor grow room for marijuana. Step by easy step.

Electricity

Let’s talk power, your electricity requirements: pre-installed outlets might have enough power to plug in all the lights and appliances. This all depends on the size of your grow. You may find the need to install an additional sub panel to deliver the extra juice. Whatever you decide on, don’t overload any one outlet. Best case: you blow a fuse or circuit, worst case: you burn the building down. Please, I can’t stress enough. Don’t play with electricity. When in doubt, always ask or hire a professional.

Cleaning

When creating an indoor grow room, it is important to start with a clean space. Clean out any and all clutter and then disinfect all surfaces.

Grow Tent

Setting up a grow tent isn’t rocket science. Lay out the shell, poles and connectors properly. Then go to YouTube for actual video instructions. It can be a little tricky, even frustrating on your own. So I suggest you find a helping hand. A properly built tent should be solid and secure.

Lights

Now it’s time to hang your lights, assuming you have already picked up your lights, if not then check out our last video on choosing the best marijuana grow lights for further help and guidance. I always use adjustable ratchet hangers. No more chains and S-hooks. Adjustable hangers work great for other equipment too, or your drying line, all sorts of things; they adjust quickly and easily. Very little physical coordination required. Unless you plan to give your plants continuous light throughout their entire cycle, they will need to be turned on and off with the precision of a clock. A simple timer will be your new best friend, preventing all sorts of trouble: from insomnia to hermaphroditism. Set it and forget it.

Humidifier and dehumidifier

The next big appliances you’ll add are your humidifier and dehumidifier. The best units come with nifty adapters that make it easy to exhaust any heat coming out of the units. Run all appliances for a pre-check to make sure everything is sealed up tight and hung properly. Then you can zip tie or hide away all the cords.

Air movement is vital. Fans take up space, so you have to use your ingenuity. Standing fans can be secured to milk crates to gain height. You can also wall mount oscillating fans if you choose.

Depending on where you live and the functionality of your humidifier/dehumidifiers, you may need to add an AC unit. Keep a close eye on the temperature and only buy one if you really need it – they can be expensive!

Two extra tips…

  • Always maintain a clean workspace. Removing all debris like dead leaves, branches, and leftover nutrient solution. If left around theses things can encourage pests and plant diseases.
  • Next thing of supreme importance is record keeping. Take as many notes as you can about watering, lamp height, and of course, the day you switch to flowering.

In the next video I’ll give you a few tips on how to choose the right seeds for your grow. See you soon!
