Maui Wowie strain description

The Maui Wowie is also known as the Maui Waui strain in other cannabis reviews. There’s little information about its original genetics except that its parent is a landrace sativa strain from Hawaii.

The cultivar became a firm favorite among smokers and growers in the ‘60s. Its popularity was because its 13 – 19% THC content was much higher than the 8% average at the time.

It wasn’t long before the Maui Wowie strain made it out of Hawaii to other parts of the United States and the world. It’s important to note that buds found elsewhere will be quite different from those grown in Hawaii because they don’t have the unique nutrients found in the volcanic soil on the island.

Considering its origins, it’s no wonder that this marijuana strain has a fruity flavor similar to pineapple.

Maui Wowie effects

Being a sativa cultivar, you’ll feel its effects almost as soon as you smoke it. Besides the initial euphoric feeling, you'll also experience a mood boost and increased focus. You can expect your creative juices to flow as well, making it the perfect time to brainstorm or problem-solve.

As long as you don’t over-indulge, the Maui Wowie strain effects will not cause you to melt into your couch. You’ll remain upbeat and active, allowing you to get your important tasks or chores done. It’s this effect that makes the cultivar a popular wake and bake bud for most users.

Medically, the strain is said to be effective in providing relief for many medical conditions, especially anxiety, depression, and stress. The cultivar makes you calm, relaxed, yet energized, which helps people struggling with fatigue.

Users also claim relief from pain, including migraines and headaches, when using this sativa regularly.

The Maui Wowie strain is reported to be commonly used by patients with eating disorders. Its ability to stimulate appetite may benefit people with cancer who lose theirs because of chemotherapy.

Other medical claims about its effectiveness include increasing focus in those with ADD or ADHD. The Maui Wowie weed strain has also been found to reduce panic attacks in people affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

If you have any serious medical condition, we recommend that you check with your doctor first and start slowly until you’re used to the strain.

Maui Wowie strain grow info

Due to its ability to grow very tall, and as it’s a little temperature-sensitive, the Maui Wowie strain is best for intermediate and expert cultivators. You can grow the cultivar indoors and outdoors. Since it comes from a tropical island, where the humidity levels are typically between 61 and 66%, it can survive in an environment that’s slightly damp.

Warm temperatures are ideal for the Maui Wowie strain, preferably between 75° and 84°F. If you’re in a cold region, make sure not to let the temperature drop below 70°F during the day for long periods. Keep the night temperature at a minimum of  60°F because if it falls within the 50° to 55°F range, your plant will go into shock, which could result in an unsatisfactory yield..

During winter, you can grow your Maui Wowie strain indoors and move the plants outside in spring, depending on the climate conditions where you live. Although the best environments are those similar to where the strain comes from, it’s adequate to provide it with light and nutrient-rich soil that mimics its home if you’re cultivating inside.

If you live in an area with conditions similar to Hawaii, you should grow your Maui Waui strain outside. Make sure you choose a spot with fertile soil and where it gets direct sunlight.

It’s a tall and slim plant that can reach a height of up to 6 to 7 feet when grown outdoors. Use the Screen of Green (ScroG) method to keep its size manageable and increase its potential yield.

The Maui Wowie strain flowering time is between 10–12 weeks. With ideal growing conditions, you can expect a yield of up to 15.8 ounces per plant. The buds are light green with orange pistils and frosty trichomes.

Harvesting times vary depending on location. It’s in October for the northern hemisphere, while in the south, you can start collecting buds in April.

Here’s a tip to protect your Maui Wowie strain from pest infestation and mold growth. Use a fan and exhaust system. It’ll give your cultivar sufficient breeze and ventilation.
