It is difficult to remain objective while curating a list of the best sativa strains. Our endocannabinoid systems are unique: one person’s soaring euphoria is another person’s couchy slumber. If your personal favourite sativa didn’t make our top five, we offer our humble apologies and invite you to tell us why we are wrong.
Moby Dick Feminized
- 27% THC
- Medical: depression, tension, stress
- Energetic and euphoric
What about that high? Well, it’s not for beginners, being one of the strongest sativa strains around. Moby Dick Feminized delivers a very long-lasting and high-energy sativa hit, newbies will be crawling on the ceiling for hours. Those tokers with a little mileage, however, are in for a great time. Her sweet smoke bathes the room in joy, leaving you beaming like a Beluga and begging for the next toke.
Medical patients love this euphoric lift, using her to fight depression, tension and stress. She’ll relight the appetite and comfort those undergoing chemo. A strong but very friendly medicine.
“This one’s ridiculously strong and should be approached with caution”Kyle Kushman
Her pine and citrus aromas take on added sweetness when the bud is lit, producing a delicious, honeyed smoke, cloying and refreshing at the same time.
You’ll need to give her lots of room indoors, both upwards AND outwards. You’ll also need to fatten her up with lots of light and plenty of nutrients as she’s got ONE HELL of an appetite.
Outdoor grows will give her the space she craves but she’ll want a Mediterranean-style climate with no danger of cold snaps OR heat waves.
Healthy Moby Dick buds, when grown well, are HUGE, and very, very dense. Like a lump of uranium, you can sense the power waiting for the blaze, straining to be released.
Some years ago a snow-kissed White Widow met a heavy-yielding Haze and produced an absolute whale of a strain.
This sativa-dominant cultivar has been delighting beginners ever since it hit the scene in Amsterdam, and is now regarded as one of the world’s favorite strains. She’s amazing to watch, exploding out of the ground like water from a blowhole, producing colossal yields at astonishing speeds.
It’s strong, it tastes great and it’s a genuine pleasure to have around.
- 18% THC
- Medical: depression, mental fatigue, stress
- Euphoric and creative
AK-47 Feminized is a very powerful strain but lighter, well-managed doses can be great for easing psychological issues such as depression, mental fatigue and stress. And those with physical ailments like chronic pain, migraines and muscular problems find this medicine really improves their quality of life. It’s nowhere near as sleepy or slumberous as some equally potent indicas, and far safer than addictive, prescription opiates.
“AK-47 will leave you relaxed and mellow. This sativa-dominant hybrid delivers a steady and long-lasting cerebral buzz that keeps you mentally alert and engaged”Kyle Kushman
Growing your own AK47 is pretty easy, especially with an indoor set up. It does well in hydro or soil and flowering takes around 60 days. Outdoor grows are a little more challenging, but the open space and natural ventilation keep bud rot and mould to a minimum. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be vigilant, though, especially if you want to achieve the heavy yields this plant is capable of.
AK-47 Feminized boasts a colourfully cosmopolitan parentage, bringing together varieties from Columbia, Mexico, Thailand and Afghanistan. It has a sweet and earthy aroma with a taste of sour fruit and exotic spice. The instant, euphoric hit has made it the go-to strain for those wanting a full-on fit of the giggles. Recreational users absolutely love it, so it’s no surprise AK-47 is one of our most popular sativa weed strains.
Purple Haze Feminized
- 18% THC
- Medical: stress, muscle spasms, depression
- Euphoric and creative
While this strain can be a lot of fun for recreational users, it is an extremely effective way to ease depression. Purple Haze Feminized can help manage mood swings and ease stress, and it can do so without the potentially damaging side-effects of prescription drugs. Anything that can help steer patients away from opioids has to be positive. Good for the patient. Good for society. Good for you.
“The very best of Thai and Southern Indian sativa”Kyle Kushman
Keep an eye out for the deep, lavender hues she inherits from the Purple Thai. This is a very pretty plant and has even the most experienced growers spellbound. The powerful, flowery flavors and fruity aromas tug at nostalgic heart-strings, while the soaring, expansive high reconnects sleeping neurons, bridging decades of space and time. At least, that’s how it can feel. Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time?
Whether you grow your own Purple Haze indoors with hydro or good quality soil, or outdoors in a warm, Mediterranean-style climate, this plant yields heavy and yields well. It has a nine-week flowering time and one hell of a stretch so make sure you plan ahead and give her lots of room.
Purple Haze Feminized is a cross of two absolute classics, Haze and Purple Thai. It isn’t one of the few 100% pure sativa strains available, but it definitely deserves a mention.
Purple Haze was already a legend before Jimi Hendrix blew it up with his 1967 hit record. If you wanna act funny without knowing why, or if you wanna just sit back and kiss the sky, this sativa-dominant superstar is the strain for you.
Super Lemon Haze Feminized
She’s fun when you have friends round, and a great addition to any medicine cabinet.
- 23% THC
- Medical: anxiety, depression, stress
- Focused and uplifting
With a THC level of 23% and stunning, cerebral hit, Super Lemon Haze Feminized perfect for social situations. The buzz is multi-layered, opening with a heavy mugginess. This soon clears to become a beautifully bright and sparkling high. Your neural network seems to gain millions more of connections, firing the imagination and boosting creativity.
“Fast and strong with a good balance of brain and brawn, a real zinger”Kyle Kushman
This classic is at least a consideration for everyone’s favourite sativa. It hit nearly every list of best sativa strains 2018, and continued to shine last year. The explosive taste of citrus and strong, cerebral high only go part-way to defining Super Lemon Haze. She also has enormous yields, beautiful buds and short flowering time, making her of the most rewarding plants on the market… a true fan’s favorite.
But what does this baby smell like blazed? Her dried buds reek of lemon peel, really sweet and zesty. When you light her up, her citrus notes gain a deep, skunky earthiness. Powerful, pungent and almost as potent as her high.
Being nearly fully sativa, you’ll have to give her plenty of vertical space. She grows tall in veg and can stretch up to 200%. She isn’t a dense plant so mold and mildew are unlikely with basic care, though she can be vulnerable to nutrient burn. Make sure she has plenty of nutes ahead of the flush, but do not overfeed during veg and flower.
She flowers quickly, never taking more than 10 weeks to ripen. As harvest time approaches, the aroma of lemon is unmistakable. A warm, fruity breeze carrying dark dankiness.
Super Lemon Haze Feminized a genuine thoroughbred, boasting an illustrious parentage of Super Silver Haze and Lemon Skunk. She also boasts TWO cannabis cups! One look at the plant and you’ll see why. Her leaves possess every shade of green imaginable, from deep olive to sun-kissed lime. The densely-packed nugget clusters bring to mind sugar-spun candy, with hairs that wriggle like orange fire-worms. Full of energy. Crammed with life.
- 24% THC
- Medical: stress, inflammation, cramps
- Cerebral and trippy
Arguably her best feature is her high. LSD Feminized is cerebral, invigorating, wide-eyed. It is outdoor festivals and tie-dyed trippiness. It stimulates the mind and then calms the body, relaxing from head to toe, leaving you just one worry: how to stop smiling.
Medical patients use her to fight stress and depression, but she also makes a great pain-killer, especially for those with cramps or spasms. Her 24% THC level can be off-putting for newbie tokers, but those with mileage are in for a genuine thrill.
LSD is only slightly sativa-dominant (that said, she deserves to be in any list of top sativa strains on account of her psychedelic fruitiness) but fairly short, flowering in just 9 to 10 weeks; her aroma during this flowering phase brings to mind freshly-dug truffles and strong, pungent skunk. The taste of the dried bud, especially on the exhale, follows these powerful flavors but with an added citrus zing.
She’s an old Skunk #1 crossed with a hardy Mazar… a unique, lovely-looking plant, perfect for those growing their own for the first time. A well-planned grow-space and basic maintenance is all you’ll need to produce a heavy yield of sparkling, frosted buds. There’ll be a little stretch, sure, but she’s pest-resistant and won’t give you any problems in terms of mold, mildew or cold.
Her interesting name stems from her famously vivid and psychedelic high, and the excitement generated ahead of her release was justified a million times over. She was an instant hit and performed brilliantly in every competition she entered.
“This bud is concentrated Woodstock with tie-dyed trippiness. Strong, psychedelic and unique”Kyle Kushman
