Weed Infused Tequila: The Definitive Guide

Weed Infused Tequila: The Definitive Guide

January 25, 2022

Tequila and lime is the classic, but the new version is tequila and weed. This Mexican liquor is known to get people a little loose and, with some, bring out an alter ego. Weed infused tequila is a unique experience and is the perfect party beverage.

Don't know what cannabis tequila is? We're going to go over what it is, the effects, why you need to try it this weekend, and some salt-rimmed recipes to mix up at home.

Vamonos!

What is weed infused tequila?

Marijuana tequila is pretty much what it sounds like, your favorite spirit infused with weed. How do you make cannabis infused tequila? It's as simple as cutting lime and putting salt on the back of your hand.

First, let's take a look at the supplies you need to make your weed infused tequila

  • 1 large airtight container
  • ⅛ ounces of weed
  • 1 bottle of your favorite clear tequila
  • Cheesecloth
  • Baking sheet with parchment paper

You simply can't just sprinkle some dry herb into a cocktail mixer, and bam, you have cannabis tequila. You must decarboxylate the marijuana. How do you do this? Follow our steps.

Decarboxylation is a process of turning THCA and CBDA into THC and CBD, so when you consume cannabis, you get the effects.

Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and place the ⅛ ounces of weed on it. Put the sheet into an oven at 245ºF. Bake the marijuana for 30 to 40 minutes. Every 10 minutes, move the weed to ensure nothing is burning. Burnt cannabis means that the THC and CBD are lost, and your marijuana tequila won't give you the effects.

When your cannabis is decarboxylated and cooled down, put it into the cheesecloth. Submerge the marijuana-filled cheesecloth into the alcohol to start making your weed infused tequila.

Place the container with the cannabis tequila into a dark place, like a cabinet, for 24 hours and up to 2 weeks. When it's taco Tuesday, and you're in the mood to drink some weed infused tequila, take out the cheesecloth, and you're ready to enjoy.

If any small particles of marijuana have left the cheesecloth, be sure to strain the weed infused tequila before serving

What are the effects of cannabis infused tequila?

We drink and smoke for one reason, the feeling we get when they're consumed. Mixing alcohol and marijuana creates a unique effect. Both are sedating but react with your body differently.

Alcohol hits your body quickly as it's easy for your body to metabolize. Cannabis, on the other hand, has a delayed reaction and could take an hour or two to feel high. You stay higher for longer than you stay drunk.

When we look specifically at cannabis tequila, the effects are desirable. If you love to take tequila shots or sip on a margarita, you'll love the weed infused kind as well. Tequila is known to make people happy and ready to dance.

The high you get depends on the type of cannabis you use. You can break down marijuana into THC vs. CBD and indica vs. sativa. These are the typical effects.

  • THC: classic head high feeling, clear-headed, psychoactive, dreamlike state
  • CBD: relaxed, stress-free, body high, calm
  • Indica: sedating, relaxed, increased appetite, reduces pain
  • Sativa: energizing, uplifted, euphoric, giggly, happy

To get the party started, we suggest using a sativa dominant and high THC strain for your weed-infused tequila. If you're looking to relax and fall asleep, use an indica dominant and high CBD strain

Why try weed tequila?

If you're already a fan of tequila and cannabis products, why not mix the two? Making a well-balanced weed infused tequila that's not too strong will help you consume in a controlled way. You'll get the effects of the alcohol and the marijuana gradually to create a euphoric feeling

Many people who take shots and then hit the bong get cross faded, which isn't desirable. When you consume cannabis tequila responsibly, you won't get any negative feelings. All you'll want to do is hit the dance floor.

What is crossfading?

Crossfading is when you mix too much alcohol and marijuana together. You go from a happy, relaxed individual to a spiraling mess. Many people get the spins, making you feel like you're on a roundabout, causing motion sickness.

Drinking and smoking in excess can be dangerous because of how each drug interacts with your body. When you drink a lot of alcohol, your body gets rid of the extra by throwing up to avoid alcohol poisoning. Marijuana is known to suppress nausea, so you don't vomit. You then become more intoxicated, which can be fatal.

To avoid crossfading, you have to consume cannabis and alcohol in moderation together. The best way to do that is with weed infused tequila.
