How To Make Weed Brownies

How To Make Weed Brownies

January 26, 2022

We've all heard about the infamous special dessert. Maybe you tried them at a friend's house or bought some at the dispensary. It's easy peasy and doesn't take any expert skills

Pot brownies have been around since the 80s, thanks to a sneaky cannabis advocate. Since then, these sweet treats have been a favorite among the 420 community.

Let's explore the effects, why you should make your own special pastrie, and how to prepare them. Let's begin on this delicious journey.

In the 1980s, Mary Jane Rathburn created the first weed brownies. She wanted to provide cannabis medicine to AIDS patients from the LGBTQ community who were in the hospital. To achieve this, she camouflaged the marijuana in the sweet treats and brought them around to all patients.

Officers arrested Rathburn when they discovered she'd been distributing pot brownies in the hospital. The media coverage on the event gave strength and supporters to the California weed legalization movement.

Since then, people all over the country and the world have been whipping up special dessert. They're a favorite in Amsterdam coffeeshops and sought after in dispensaries.

Let's be real. Who wouldn't love a chocolatey dessert with a wonderful high feeling? No wonder why they're so popular.

What are the weed brownie effects?

Since you absorb the weed into the body through your stomach instead of your lungs, it's a different experience. When smoking marijuana, the effects hit instantly. If you consume a weed brownie, the buzz comes about an hour after you ingest it

The intensity of the effects of the special brownies depends on some factors. If you eat them on an empty stomach, you're going to feel it faster and stronger. It's similar to how alcohol interacts with your body when you haven't eaten dinner.

If you naturally have a quicker metabolism, you'll feel the effects much faster than others with slower ones. Also, gender, weight, and height play a role in how much weed brownie you can handle.

Another thing is your cannabis tolerance. If you're an avid marijuana user, a small piece of pot dessert might not do a thing for you, but a novice user will get very high.

The effects depend on what type of weed you use for your pot dessert. High THC strains will give you more of a head buzz, while high CBD strains will feel more therapeutic and provide a body high.

Sativa dominant strains give you energy when you consume weed brownies, and indica dominant ones relax you and put you right to sleep. Before preparing your pot special cake, take a minute to think about what type of high you want.

Once you know what profile of cannabis you want, you can order marijuana seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co. to grow your own crop. This way, you have a never-ending supply right at home.

The best strains for pot brownies

A great strain for weed dessert is OG Kush feminized. The flower is mostly indica, containing 23% THC and 0.7% CBD. If you want a relaxing high that clears your head and makes your body pain-free, this is the way to go.

When you’re looking for a batch of pot brownies to bring to a party, use NYC Diesel feminized. The herb is mostly sativa with 19% THC and 0.6% CBD. You and your friends will be ready to dance or chat all night long with just a couple of bites.

Why should you make your own weed brownie

Because you have all of the control. Dispensaries typically have processed edibles made a while in advance and only come in a certain dosage.

If you only eat organic foods or stick to a vegan diet, you get to choose what ingredients go into your weed brownies. You have the power to make them as healthy as possible and know where the ingredients come from.

You can even make them keto or use substitutes for allergies. Why not make a blondie bar? If you like fudgy weed brownies, cook them a minute less, but let them bake fully if you like cakey ones.

We can't forget the ongoing debate on whether the end piece or the middle piece of dessert is better. Everyone has their personal choice, and when you make your own pot brownies at home, you can choose what part to eat.

There's nothing like a fresh-baked warm treat right out of the oven. When you make your own pot brownies, you can enjoy them within a few days. You'll know no preservatives are in them, giving the cannabis treats a longer shelf life.

Depending on how potent your marijuana oil is, you can make weed brownies as strong as you like. If you want to nibble on some more, you don't have to go back to the dispensary, just to your kitchen.

How to make weed brownies

It's simple and doesn't require any Martha Stewart talents. You just need some basic baking skills and homegrown dry herb

Making weed brownies: what will you need

First, you need a few ingredients and some bakeware to get started.

These are the basics for making weed brownies

  • Your favorite recipe
  • Cannabutter or oil
  • Baking dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

You can use a box of brownie mix or your secret family recipe. If you've never made this dessert before, we’ve added a generic recipe below you can follow. The ingredients you need are:

  • 4 eggs
  • ⅔ cup of cannabutter
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 ½ cups of flour
  • 3 tbsp of cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

You can make your recipe vegan or with other added ingredients like nuts, coconut, chocolate chips, or sprinkles. The options are endless.

How many grams of weed for brownies

The amount of marijuana you need for weed brownies all depends on how strong you want each one. For example, if you use 1 gram of weed and put it into one stick of butter, which is a 1/2 cup, each piece will have 8 to 10 milligrams of THC. This is a good strength to start with.

If you're a newbie to pot brownies, we recommend starting with a lower potency because these weed-infused treats can be more powerful than expected. Adding more grams of cannabis only results in a stronger end product

Whatever you do, you need to do some math, so you know how much weed is in each pot, especially if you're sharing it with friends.

What is cannabutter?

Cannabutter is weed-infused butter, to put it simply. Marijuana isn't water-soluble, but it's oil-soluble, which is why we can make cannabis-infused oil so easily.

You can also use the cannabutter to replace butter or oil in any recipe. You can try it with cookies, weed cakes, and even savory dishes like pasta, bread, or veggies. The options are endless.

How to make cannabutter

Let's break down the steps of making cannabutter.

Decarb the cannabis

Marijuana has to go through a process called decarboxylating to give you a high feeling. This is why you simply can't eat weed or toss the leaves into your edible brownie batter to make special pastries.

The THCA and CBDA need heat to turn into THC and CBD. An easy way to do that is to place the marijuana herb for your weed brownies on a tray and into an oven at 245ºF. To ensure you don't lose any precious bud, make sure you use a non-stick sheet or parchment paper.

You need to bake the weed for 30 to 40 minutes. For the best results, you need to decarb low and slow because burnt marijuana won't work.

Grind

Once the baked weed for your pot brownies is cooled down, you need to grind the nugs into a finer powder for the next step.

Melt the butter or oil

You can use any high-fat substance you want. Some favorites are coconut oil, margarine, olive oil, or avocado oil.

Place 1 cup of water and 1 cup of butter in a saucepan. Adding water helps regulate the heat, and the butter won't burn. Heat low and slow until the mixture is fully melted.

Add cannabis

Now it's time to throw the ground-up weed into the butter to mix together. Simmer on low heat for 2 to 3 hours. Stir occasionally and make sure the cannabutter for your weed brownies never comes to a full boil.

Strain cannabis particles

All of the cannabinoids have left the dry flower, so you don't need them anymore. Let the butter cool off a little, but not until it's solid again. Strain the mixture with cheesecloth to catch all of the small particles.

Don't squeeze the cheesecloth. Let all of the butter or oil drain naturally. Pushing on the cloth will let out more foul-tasting plant material into the rich cannabutter for your pot brownies.

Put in a contains and refrigerate

Place your cannabutter into a container and put it in the fridge. After a few hours, the mixture will form a solid, and you can drain out any excess water

Ready to use

Now, you have your own homemade cannabutter, and you can start preparing your weed brownies

Weed brownie recipe step by step

We recommend only using the best quality ingredients to get the best tasting and highly potent pot brownies. Let's take a look at the step-by-step guide on how to make weed brownies.

Preheat oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F, or if you're using a box mix, whatever it says.

Prep your baking dish

Take out your 10x8 inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper or non-stick cooking spray

Mix dry ingredients

Using the general recipe given above, sift the flour, salt, and cocoa powder into a bowl.

Use the mixer

Put the eggs, softened cannabutter, sugar, and vanilla extract into the mixer. Blend until it's completely combined. This part is crucial because if the cannabutter isn't fully combined, you can have some very strong weed brownies and others that are weak.

Slowly add dry ingredients

With the mixer on low, slowly add in the dry ingredients. Again, make sure it's completely mixed to ensure a consistent weed brownie.

Put weed brownie batter into baking dish

Pour the edible brownie batter into the baking dish and spread, so it's all evened out

Bake

Put the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or the time the package says.

Check

After 20 minutes, use a toothpick and poke holes in the weed brownies. If it comes out dry, they're done. If the toothpick comes out with batter, let them cook for a few more minutes. Be sure not to overcook the pot brownies, as this can ruin the THC potency.

Take out and cool

When fully cooked, take the weed brownies out of the oven and let them cool. You can now cut and enjoy

For how long will your pot brownies be good?

For pot brownies that you're not going to eat fresh out of the oven, pack them away. Follow these steps if you want to keep your weed brownies delicious, chewy, and not rock hard for the longest time possible.

  1. Get an airtight Tupperware container, big enough to hold all of the weed brownies.
  2. Place a piece of wax paper on the bottom of the container.
  3. Put a single layer of pot brownies down.
  4. Place another sheet of wax paper over the layer.
  5. Continue putting down a single layer of weed brownies with wax paper in between.
  6. Seal the Tupperware well to keep fresh.

You'll be able to consume these special brownies for up to a week. Even better, bring them to a party or get together and share with your friends.
