Are you looking for ways in which you can maximize your cannabis production? Feminized seeds from The Single Seed Centre are the best. These seeds will help you boost productivity and maximize the available space. In this article, we give you tips on how to feminize seeds and maximize yield.
How does the feminization of seeds occur?
You feminize seeds by forcing the female plants to grow pollen sacs then using this pollen to fertilize another female plant. When a female plant undergoes certain stressful conditions, it starts increasing male flowers, i.e., pollen sacs. These pollen sacs then produce pollen, which is ‘feminized.’ When this feminized pollen is used to fertilize another female plant, the resulting plant is one which is 100% female.
In nature, Cannabis plants produce more female seeds than male ones because a few male plants can pollinate a lot of female ones. However, when the plants delay pollinating, they try to preserve their lineage by developing male flowers. This is basically what feminizing is; you are manipulating the plant into becoming a hermaphrodite. This means the female develops male pollen sacs containing pollen with mostly female characteristics.
How to feminize seeds
You can feminize seeds in two main ways. These are:
- Chemically-induced feminization – this method involves spraying mineral supplements such as gibberellic powder or colloidal silver on the female plant daily for the first 3 to 4 weeks after the early signs of flowering. Once the plant reaches its natural flowering photoperiod after the chemical spray, it usually flowers but with a male flower. This female plant with male sac will then produce feminized pollen which, when used to fertilize another female plant results in entirely female seeds.
- Rhodenization – this process involves stressing or manipulating the plant into developing male pollen sacs. You can manipulate a plant through changing its nutrition, temperature, pH, and photoperiod. This manipulation makes the plant reverse its sex while remaining female. The seeds produced have a high chance of producing hermaphrodite plants which can have some male pollen that can end up seeding your produce.
Why should I feminize seeds?
You should feminize seeds because it results in a higher yield, saves on the overall cost and space. If you are using regular seeds, the amount of yield you can get from your crops reduces because there will be male plants which you will have to discard. A single male plant can pollinate a whole room of female plants: Imagine cultivating your cannabis crops only to end up discarding almost half of them! This is a clear waste of effort, time, and farming space which you could use to produce 100% female plants.
At The Single Seed Centre, we provide you with high-quality feminized seeds that will maximize every crop and double your yield. When you learn how to feminize seeds, you gain information which you can use to continuously produce female crops only. This will eliminate the need to buy seeds every time you want to start a new crop.
