STRAIN PROFILE OG Kush Fast Version
OG Kush Fast Version Profile by Kyle Kushman
OG Kush is arguably one of the most famous strains in history. After making a debut in Florida, it went on to conquer the entire West Coast of the United States, giving rise to countless hybrids - all bearing its genetics and name.
Among the most influential descendants is Girl Scout Cookies, Headband, and Bubba Kush. Kosher Kush, on the other hand, could very well be the most prestigious, having won the Best Indica category of the Cannabis Cup in 2010 and 2011. It was also the overall winner of the Best Strain in 2011. Even some of its phenotypes such as Tahoe OG, SFV OG, and Ghost OG have gone on to become classics as well.
Blessed with a unique terpene profile, the mixed odor of fuel and skunk have come to characterize OG Kush. Equally impressive is the lavish trichome production as evidenced by thick crystal coatings.
For such a highly regarded, widely acclaimed lineage, the origin of OG Kush itself remains shrouded in mystery. A widespread consensus is that it descended from Thai Lemon, Old World Paki Kush, and Chemdawg. Regardless, the fact is that there is a strong influence of Hindu Kush.
Mystery likewise surrounds the name “OG.” Some people believe it stands for “Ocean Grown.” Others, though, think it refers to “Original Gangster,” thereby associating it with the notorious streets of San Fernando Valley.
Regardless of the origin and the name, it is the highly remarkable traits that catapulted OG Kush to the Mt. Rushmore of cannabis strains. More importantly, this exquisite genetic can be had from Homegrown Cannabis Co. in the form of fast version seeds. Compared to the traditional feminized seeds, it has a quicker flowering time, thereby cutting the overall growth cycle by up to two weeks.
Growing OG Kush Fast Version Seeds
Compared to the original OG Kush, the fast version variety leans much more to the Indica side. It also has a smaller stature but otherwise produces the same number of lateral branches. More or less, it averages 100cm tall, making it perfect for indoor cultivation.
Of utmost importance is maintaining the ideal temperature and humidity level, both in the upper canopy and, more importantly, the lower parts. Depending on the spacing between plants, the dense foliage may be susceptible to molds if moisture is high. Trimming and pruning, as well as strategically installing a small oscillating fan, helps improve air circulation to better control these environmental factors.
Generally, this is not challenging to cultivate. However, to further improve the quality and the size of the harvest, some training merits consideration. One is the Sea of Green. Under this setup, and combined with 600 watts HPS, the yield could be as high as 600 grams per square meter, even if the flowering time takes only seven weeks.
Although the Fast Version OG Kush is more suitable indoors, it can thrive outdoors as well. It is best planted in a location where there is ample sunshine. In the northern hemisphere, the harvest could be as early as the first week of September. Each plant, in this case, could yield between 350 to 600 grams of buds.
Fragrance and Flavor
OG Kush Fast Version exudes seemingly contrasting scents. Much like the original, it has a pungent odor of fuel and lemon with a citrusy and spicy note.
Not quite an auto-flowering strain despite having the genes of Ruderalis, its growth rate is still fast. Even with a shortened flowering stage, OG Kush Fast Version could still produce high levels of THC and other compounds. It remains a highly potent strain able to deliver devastating effects.
In moderate consumption, it first delivers a gentle euphoric rush that quickly uplifts the mood. Then, as the mind clears up, the sense of happiness forming leaves one feeling upbeat. At this point, performing tasks is manageable and enjoyable as well.
After 20-40 minutes, a soothing calm that accompanies the cerebral high turns into pleasurable sensations. It eases away tensions from the muscles, thereby promoting relaxation. Gradually, the intensity increases, leading to profound body stone in which heaviness weighs down the limbs. For some people, this is the ideal moment to sit back on the couch and binge on TV. Others, on the other hand, fall asleep as this strain could indeed induce drowsiness.
A high dosage, obviously, further intensifies the effects. In this case, OG Kush Fast Version could cause a heavy couch-lock, leaving the consumers basking in bliss while going into deep introspection.
As expected, it can also induce common side effects. These include dizziness, dry eyes, cottonmouth, or headache. An excessive intake could also lead to severe reactions, one of which is feeling highly anxious.
The famed original has an uncanny ability to wipe out stress, and this Fast Version variety is no different. Moreover, it has potent anti-depressant and anxiolytic properties to help ward off depressive symptoms and bring calm to anxious feelings. It also has antipsychotic effects that could help in coping with bipolar disorder or PTSD.
OG Kush Fast Version can also be useful as a painkiller. Having a high level of THC, together with modest CBD, helps in reducing pains caused by a variety of conditions including multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.
Sleep disorders and other ailments cause difficulty in falling asleep. In this regard, the drowsiness induced becomes beneficial and could indeed cut down sleep latency.
OG Kush Fast Version Seeds
OG Kush is more typically available as feminized seeds. At Homegrown Cannabis Co. - a trusted seed bank and source of premium strains - the fast flowering variety offers two benefits.
• The flowering time is shorter by an average of two weeks without compromising the quality and yield of harvest.
• These are female seeds too, with a female to male ratio of more than 9:1.
The seeds are not difficult to germinate, and it has among the highest success rate in the industry. Once the seedlings appear, cultivating and nurturing is a straightforward process and does not entail expert skills. After only seven weeks of flowering, the harvest is incredibly generous. Be it for leisure or medicinal use, the stash could last a long time when correctly stored.
