Experience is key. This can be a tricky plant to cultivate and a heavy smoke for newbies.
Strain Description

Gelato, an Indica hybrid, is considered by many as the heir to GSC's throne. It is a cross between the "cookie" crowd-pleasers - the citrusy Sunset Sherbet and the musty Thin Mint GSC. Apart from the mouth-watering flavor profile, its pleasant-smelling resin also carries 18% to 25% THC load. Due to its potency, the dosage has to be in moderation. Newbies should try a gentler strain, leaving this one for people armed with high tolerance.

Gelato delivers relaxation without restricting the mind and the body. Although quite intense, the cerebral buzz promotes mental clarity, creative thinking, and sharp focus - thereby enhancing productivity. Its physical impact, on the other hand, induces a profound sense of calm, which may ultimately lead to couch-lock.

Among the high-THC medicinal strains, Gelato is among the highest-rated by the majority of cannabis users. Stress, anxiety, depression, and pain - these conditions melt away once the full effects kick into the body.

If this strain is not available, some of its phenotypes that have made a name are #33 Larry Bird Kush, #1 Guno, #25 Barry Bonds, and #41 Bacio. All these are also fantastic options. Better yet, cultivate its regular seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co. and avert supply problems for good.

Growing Gelato from Regular Seeds

Gelato boasts of Indica-leaning physical attributes that are advantageous for cultivating at home. It has an imposing appearance, boasting of humongous apical cola and several secondary clusters of dense, dark forest green buds. As the precious flowers reach maturity, its trichomes become a shimmering coat of frosty white resin. Note, though, that this hybrid is not as resinous as other "cookie" family strains. To increase its bag appeal, expose it to cold night temperatures last two weeks before harvest.

As with many hybrids of dominant GSC genetics, Gelato thrives in generous portions of magnesium and calcium. Any less, and it will show signs of nutrient deficiencies, which hinders its growth. The non-essential fan leaves and lower branches of the plant must also be pruned away for optimal airflow and light penetration.

In a controlled environment, Gelato may reach up to 180 cm (6 ft) tall, which is more than what some home growers typically like. Employing the Screen of Green training technique helps control the height while also boosting bud production. Optionally, the Sea of Green is also viable. By force transitioning to the flowering stage earlier by two weeks, it also helps manage the height. Either method also results in higher yields.

Because the dense buds of Gelato are sensitive to high humidity and vulnerable to pathogen attacks, the grow room conditions must be maintained favorably. An RH level of around 40 to 50% is crucial for most of its 8- to 9-week-long flowering period, only dropping it to 30 to 40% a week or two before the end of the cycle. The temperature, on the other hand, must be between 20 to 26°C. If all goes well and with the right grow technique, around 500 grams of buds per square meter can be collected.

Meanwhile, a whopping 700 grams per plant is possible if Gelato is grown in optimal outdoor conditions. It needs the mild and dry summers of California and Southern Europe for maximum budding. Harvest in the northern hemisphere rolls around early to mid-October.

Fragrance and Flavor

A properly dried and cured Gelato bud has a delectable predominant mix of blueberry and citrus scent with a subtle earthy note. Once combusted and inhaled, it produces a thick, lung-expanding vapor with a more complex flavor profile. The taste of berries and orange is still most evident, but it also has hints of lavender and sandalwood.

Effects

Gelato hits fast and strong, but would not overwhelm if consumed in moderation. It enhances sensory perception, making the surroundings seem more interesting, vibrant, and appealing. Plus, unlike most strains with mind-altering effects, it boosts focus and creativity. This cerebral influence comes with a palpable, relaxing body buzz that deters moving around but still leaves a good level of mobility.

Apart from some afternoon or evening unwinding, the strain is widely used when pursuing artistic endeavors. It is also useful when completing an unfinished, take-home work or when brainstorming for new ideas. And, it would not instantly induce sleep, leaving consumers with a couple of hours to enjoy the high and make good use of its effects.

Medical

Therapeutically, Gelato is highly coveted for its powerful blend of relaxing and numbing influence. It is most commonly used to mitigate headaches, migraines, arthritis, and neuropathic pains, all the while easing muscle spasms. This strain could also elevate the mood, delivering temporary relief from the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Furthermore, it causes intense hunger while also suppressing vomition, allowing one to regain their appetite and keep the food down. The combination helps with eating disorders, AIDS, and chemotherapy-induced regurgitation.

As Gelato is quite potent, a few hits with ample intervals should be enough. Over-consumption can mean trouble for those predisposed to paranoia and anxiety. It may also cause dry eyes, cottonmouth, and mild lightheadedness.

Gelato Regular Seeds

Gelato regular seeds are best for consumers with high THC tolerance and enough experience in canna-cultivation. If growing for yields, the males must be separated to prevent pollination. The plant must also be given optimal growing conditions and heavy feeding for maximum resin production. While the must-dos may seem intimidating, its 500 to 700 grams of output is more than worth all the effort. Plus, this herb delivers relaxation and bliss even in low dosages, allowing the considerable supply to last a longer.

Quality Gelatos
I've received the free 4 packs twice now and all germinated for me. They took a few days longer than normal but if using paper towel method and keep it moist, they pop. Stems grew thick super fast and the leaves get thick, dark and a slight waxy look. Waiting to see the finished product but looking super so far.

Of these seeds only one seed germinated
My suspicion is that these were very old seeds, given the germination rate.
