STRAIN PROFILE Mazar Feminized
Mazar Feminized Profile by Kyle Kushman
Formerly known as Afghan Skunk, Mazar is a Dutch Passion creation that was re-baptized in 1997. It’s an Indica-heavy strain with a high THC content that can bring an amazing mind and body experience. It’s also said to have amazing medicinal benefits.
The strain is a cross between two legendary varieties. The resulting plant’s structure comes from Afghani Indica, an ancient landrace that’s still in existence today. The amazing yield and taste are gifts from Skunk #1, one of the most popular strains of all time. With such a rich lineage, the hybrid was destined to be a powerhouse just like its parents.
And what a powerhouse it became – it even has the awards to prove it. In 1999 and 2002, it went home with the 2nd prize in the High Times Cannabis Cup and the High Life Cup respectively. Then, in 2008, it bagged the top award in the Cannabis Tipo Forte fair in Bologna. Finally, the hard-kicker was named the 2004 Plant of the Year by Soft Secrets Magazine.
Growing Mazar from Feminized Seeds
Mazar is a no fuss, heavy-yielding plant, and growers find it a complete pleasure to cultivate. Imagine getting your hands on an all-female army of this awesome herb, with each one producing high-quality nugs and no effort or space wasted on male seedlings. That sounds like a planting dream come true – and it can become a reality thanks to these feminized Mazar seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co.
The plant boasts many terrific traits, most of which are classic Indica attributes. It’s easy to grow and resilient to pests, fungus, and mold. Although it loves to bask in the sun, it can also endure severe weather. If those features aren't enough, the short shrub has dense dark green nugs that are cloaked in thick white resins and long orange hairs. Simply put – these buds are absolutely irresistible.
For indoor cultivation, a SOG setup is an excellent option as it maximizes space in the grow room. Also, you’ll need to ensure proper light management and a stable temperature of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. After the flowering stage of 8 to 9 weeks, get ready to dry and cure 1.47 to 1.8 ounces of buds per square foot.
If cultivating outdoors, put the plant in an area that receives ample sunlight. Growers in the northern hemisphere can also get good results, but frost must be avoided. Come early November, expect a harvest of around 12.3 to 15.9 ounces per plant.
Fragrance and Flavor
A great choice for a low-odor strain, Mazar is perfect for discreet cannabis growers and smokers. Although not pungent, the plant has a distinct skunky odor that comes courtesy of Skunk #1. Once lit up, the buds gift an eclectic mix of aromas with spicy and sweet notes and a floral hint. The flavor is a concoction of fruit and citrus – while it swirls inside the mouth, sweet and woody nuances can also be detected.
Mazar is a powerful strain that’s sure to give a powerful mind and body experience. As soon as you take a drag, its immense 14.5% to 20% THC and meager Sativa content provides a double-whammy kick-start to the journey. The blissful yet lucid cerebral buzz is gentle at first, and as the seconds turn to minutes, it gradually intensifies.
As the mental flight ascends, the strain's colossal Indica makeup will join in on the fun. First, you’ll feel a mild sense of relaxation, and then, as the calm spreads throughout the body, a profound physical tranquility will take over. The heavy body stone is the true highlight of using Mazar, and the happy head high should be regarded as the icing on an already very delicious cake.
Mazar may be overwhelming for some users, so it’s best to take one puff and wait a couple of minutes before having another. Beginners, in particular, must heed this advice. Also, it should be noted that the strain will almost certainly cause couch-lock and is likely to send even seasoned smokers into a deep sleep. For this reason it's best consumed at night or when there are no chores to attend to.
Renowned for its medicinal qualities, Mazar is said to have a number of health benefits. The Indica's tranquilizing effect may bring a long, restful sleep that people struggling with sleeping disorders and fatigue may find especially helpful. At the same time, it’s said to have muscle-relaxing abilities and analgesic properties that may relieve aches and pains. People tormented by conditions like arthritis and migraines may feel comfort after smoking it.
This impressive cannabis may also ease the symptoms of anxiety and stress. Its blissful psychological impact can potentially rid sufferers of their negative emotions.
As with most other strains, Mazar is not without possible adverse effects. Dry eyes and cottonmouth are the most common and they can usually be avoided by staying properly hydrated.
There can also be some more serious reactions. Newbies and those sensitive to THC may get dizzy, anxious or even paranoid. Going for a lighter dose should help matters, but if symptoms persist then switching to less potent strain – or one with lower THC levels – is strongly advised.
