First introduced in the 1970s, Skunk is one of the backbones of the 420 breeding industry. Its sought after genetics are found in around half of the entire cannabis gene pool, making it perhaps the most widely used parent cultivar. The standouts among the many hybrids that carry its genome include Super Skunk, Lemon Skunk, Shiva Skunk, and UK Cheese.
To produce this spectacular variant, three landrace cultivars with varying positive traits and from different parts of the globe were used. Its relaxing effect, as well as resilience against diseases and medium height, are from none other than the legendary Afghani. Meanwhile, Acapulco Gold contributed its uplifting head high and physical buzz, which balances out Afghani's intensely calming influence.
Last but certainly not least is Colombian Gold. It is from this rare cannabis that Skunk got its famous dead animal-like fragrance and sweet lemon undertone. In addition, the South American cultivar passed on its elongated, pepper-shaped buds with fiery orange hair.
Because all of its parents are landraces, Skunk is physically robust and able to withstand unfriendly outdoor conditions. When gardening for consumption, using its feminized seeds make things a lot easier. These babies develop into generous females that share loads of dense buds. There is no need to wait for gender pre-flowers or segregate the males, making cultivation as simple as possible.
Growing Skunk Feminized Seeds
Despite its hybrid genetics, Growing Skunk looks very much like an Indica. And, when it comes to cultivation, that is most definitely good news. It does not mature above 5 ft and has thick, sturdy branches ready to carry as much load as it is given. Also, its colas have a high-calyx-to-leaf ratio, giving the flowers more cannabinoid and terpene concentration. Of course, it also means easier manicuring after harvest.
Because the plant is rather bushy, giving a regular trimming allows for better airflow and light penetration. Its lower branches can also be removed, although that depends on the preferred grow technique. In an indoor setup, it is best grown in batch (minimum of 4) and arranged in a Sea of Green (SOG) to boost the harvest. Also ensure that the required temperature and humidity level per grow stages are appropriately set. If all variables are in sync, achieving 450 to 500 grams of beautiful, compact buds after 9 to 10 weeks of flowering is possible.
Similarly, cultivating in an outdoor location with optimal grow conditions results in a fruitful harvest. In locations with a Mediterranean climate, the yield can be as huge as 500 grams per plant due to the abundance of sunlight and tolerable amount of wind. In the northern hemisphere, be ready to collect by mid-October.
Fragrance and Flavor
The craze for the Skunk's aroma comes as a shock to many non-cannabis users. However, there is something unique and attractive to the stink of animal carcass smell with some sweet, sour, and earthy notes that linger in the background. Somehow the combination of these different types of scents just work. Then, when combusted and inhaled, its cured buds produce a thick and creamy smoke that stays true to its skunkiness. It also leaves a sweet lemony taste that lingers long on the lips.
Effects
Although of humble THC content by today's standards, Skunk is more than capable of providing a high-octane cerebral stimulation. The mental punch hits fast and leaves a slight pressure around the head, like when wearing a hat or beanie that is too small. It sets the mind in a state of euphoria and elevates the mood almost instantly. Then, as if the herb opened the floodgates of the brain's creativity dam, a flood of new ideas starts coming in within minutes. Due to such effect, people that pursue artistic endeavors tend to love this bud.
The physical effect of a cannabis variant determines when it is best used. In the case of Skunk, most enthusiasts consume it after work or whenever there is plenty of time to relax. The bud soothes away muscle tension and discomforts. It also makes lazing around ultra tempting and, in high dosages, there is a possibility of a couch-lock. Outbursts of laughter are to be expected as well.
Feminized Skunk Seeds
One of the backbones of the cannabis breeding industry is Skunk seeds. Its desirable genetics runs in about half of the entire cannabis gene pool, producing notable hybrids like Super Skunk, Lemon Skunk, Shiva Skunk, and UK Cheese. Of course, the reason behind the demand for its bloodline is its sought-after effects and growth inclinations.
Skunk shares an uplifting head high and physical relaxation. It also provides relief from chronic pain, stress, depression, nausea, and fatigue. Cultivating the herb is also as beneficial — thanks to its Homegrown Cannabis Co feminized seeds. The female Skunk is robust and can withstand unfriendly outdoor conditions due to its landrace roots. Plus, when growing for consumption, having an all-fem batch make things a lot easier. Apart from not having to wait for gender pre-flowers or segregate the males, a she-Skunk produces loads of dense buds, making cultivation fruitful and a lot less complicated.
