Hindu Kush Feminized
STRAIN PROFILE Hindu Kush Feminized
Hindu Kush Feminized Profile by Kyle Kushman
The Hindu Kush mountain range stretches from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Throughout history, it has played a significant role in the history of humanity – and, for the cannabis community, it’s regarded as the epicenter of Indica strains.
For thousands of years, these plants evolved to withstand the harsh, windswept mountainsides and cold temperatures. Apart from their toughness and resiliency, they provide an exemplary body high that sets the standard against which all others are measured.
It’s unclear exactly how many of these varieties made their way to the western hemisphere. One, in particular, rose to prominence and was named as an homage to its home region. Since its introduction to the market, Hindu Kush not only developed an enormous fan base – it also passed its genetics on to numerous hybrids that went on to become legends in their own right.
With high THC levels, Hindu Kush has the potential to deliver a crippling full-body knock out in large doses . However, used responsibly, it can carry users to a state of nirvana. On top of this, it’s also said to help relieve medicinal users of various ailments and pains.
Nowadays, it’s no longer necessary to traverse the remote mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan to find Hindu Kush. In fact, the grow room or garden at home is an ideal environment for it to thrive. These feminized seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co. bring this awesome plant straight to your living room.
Growing Hindu Kush from Feminized Seeds
The plant’s incredible adaptability to windswept mountainsides is evident in its structure. It remains quite short, growing to about four feet tall, but it exhibits vigorous lateral stretching. These traits make it ideal for cultivation indoors, even in small tents.
The aroma is not as mouthwatering as some other varieties, but that’s not to suggest it’s unpleasant. While it grows happily in soil, the best option is to combine SOG with a hydroponics setup. During the late stage of vegetative growth and some parts of the flowering period, trimming and pruning (or lollipopping) will significantly boost its yield.
Although it’s resistant to mold and mildew, a combination of stress training and controlling the fan leaves helps ensure disease-free growth with better air circulation. Besides, the lower branches also need access to the light source in order to develop more bud sites. This is the key thing that growers should focus on, as the plant typically focuses its energy on the central cola.
It takes some 7 to 8 weeks for the flowers to develop and be ready for harvest. On average, each square foot will yield 1.14 to 1.31 ounces of buds.
Hindu Kush feminized seeds from Homegrown Cannabis Co. also work well outdoors, and they produce plants that are best suited to a warm climate. However, their strong genetics make them tolerant of abrupt changes in the weather such as sudden lowering of the temperature – but not to the point of freezing. Harvest time occurs in the first week of October, and each plant is capable of producing around 14 to 19 ounces.
Instead of triggering the flowering period as soon as the plant appears to be ready, consider delaying it by a week. Doing so could improve the yield.
Before the flowering period starts, lowering the temperature by around 8 degrees Fahrenheit during the dark cycle results in a higher concentration of anthocyanin. This brings out a beautiful purple shade. Although it does not have any effect on the quality of the buds with regard to fragrance, flavor or potency, it definitely makes the plant more aesthetically pleasing.
Lollipopping the plant and/or exposing it to a lower temperature causes some stress. These feminized seeds do not have hermaphroditic tendencies, though, and so the plants they spring can tolerate stress as well as regular seeds.
Flavor and Fragrance
Hindu Kush has a distinct sharp and spicy aroma blended with a mix of aniseed, sandalwood and classic Afghan earthiness.
The effect of this variety does not deviate from the original Hindu Kush that smokers know and love. Once it kicks in, it induces gentle cerebral euphoria followed by a soothing body buzz. As it intensifies, the mood begins to change as a sense of happiness sets in, leaving users feeling contented.
The strain delivers a sedating body high that does not result in typical couch-lock, though it can make people feel lazy, tranquil and peaceful. A word of warning – it often causes mental fogginess, making concentration difficult.
The relaxing heaviness that weighs down the body soon paves the way for drowsiness. At the same time, the cannabinoids responsible for the high can also cause a serious case of the munchies.
When consuming or using Hindu Kush in the advised dosage, users can go either way – some will drift off to sleep, others will find themselves snacking through to the early hours of the morning. Of course, overindulgence assures a one-way ticket to dreamland.
Like other strains, Hindu Kush is not without its possible adverse effects. For one, users will likely experience varying degrees of cottonmouth and dry eyes. Some might have bouts of dizziness too. And, in extreme cases, especially when too much is taken, it might even cause an anxiety or mild paranoia.
Hindu Kush has excellent characteristics that are said to make it an extraordinary companion for alleviating psychiatric and somatic pain.
Once the full-bodied high takes effect, its uplifting qualities help beat stress and tension. Even people suffering from depression may find a reprieve.
Packing up to 20% THC, it can induce a profound high centered on the body. And, since this same cannabinoid also unleashes hunger pangs, patients undergoing treatments that suppress the appetite have turned to it for support.
Finally, as users settle into a foggy relaxing bliss, the soporific effect may be beneficial to those suffering from insomnia.
